The hosts, Nottingham Forest, started the game strongly, with most of the play taking place in the first half. However, they were unable to create many clear chances, with Mads Hermansen in the West Ham goal not being tested too much. Forest's best opportunity in the first half came in the 39th minute when Lucas Paquetá had a strong shot saved by Mats Selz.
The second half saw an increase in tempo, with the rain pouring down at the City Ground. West Ham had a few chances to score, including a header by Chris Wood that was easily saved by Hermansen, and a shot by Jarrod Bowen that was blocked by a Forest defender.
It wasn't until the 84th minute that West Ham finally took the lead, with Bowen scoring a first-time shot. Four minutes later, Paquetá scored from the penalty spot after being fouled by Ibrahim Sangaré. The game was sealed in stoppage time when Callum Wilson nodded in a cross from El Hadji Malick Diouf to score his first goal for West Ham.
West Ham's victory marks their first goal in five top-flight visits to Nottingham, and brings an end to Forest's run of three consecutive wins in head-to-head Premier League matches. The win is a much-needed boost for West Ham, who had lost their previous two games.
